Layers: The Help Seeking tool in the Healthcare sector
The Learning Layers Wp2 team ran two workshops in April and May 2014 with one of the Layers GP Practices (Yorkshire, UK) to co-design with them a tool to support their own Professional Learning Network (the Help Seeking tool). The goal of the workshops was to show, explore & co-design Social Media tools (existing ones and our functional prototypes) and discuss with the participants the potential, benefits and limitations of these systems. Separate sessions were designed for the Practice Managers and Data Quality Leads and for the Nurses, so that we could explore how best to support each network.
Workshop 1( 16th April): “Social Networks for improving your professional networking skills”
- Introduction to professional existing networking tools – LinkedIn.
- Discuss the uses and benefits of using professional networking tools.
- Support group in setting up profiles on LinkedIn.
- Discuss what the group wants in terms of network support (the group’s comments will then influence the ongoing development of the Learning Layers Help Seeking tool).
Workshop 2 (20th May): “Help Seeking 1: Co-designing Technology for Interpersonal Help Seeking and Learning Scaffolding“
- Introduce the Learning Layers Help Seeking tool (beta 1) and outline the anticipated benefits from using it.
- Short training session on the tool.
- Hands-on support to participants to get them set up and using the tool.
- Gathering of initial feedback on the tool (this will then influence the ongoing development).
At this stage the Help Seeking tool is developed as a functional prototype which can be used by the networks after the workshop, to help manage their communication and help seeking.
A third workshop is planned in September 2014 to gather feedback on this use. Over the summer we will be analysing the data gathered from the workshops 1 and 2 and using the results to improve the Help Seeking tool, taking into account the opinion of our stakeholders.
